A Wicket of Lies

Victoria Tait

Not Cricket After All

Victoria Tait has ventured from her usual antiques mystery into a sports story, but not everyone is “playing cricket”. A Lady’s amateur cricket tournament leads to quite a sticky wicket. At first it seems like someone has been killed by a stray cricket ball. But the evidence is suspect and the team thinks that this more than just a foul ball. As always, Tait displays a mastery of description. Usually, her words paint detailed English country side landscapes and lavish antiques. This time, she spends several chapters bringing the reader into the cricket competition. Despite the fact that I don’t even follow American sprots, I was caught up in the games. Later, Tait continues with what she does best. she lays out a murder mystery with plenty of suspects, motives and shaky alibies.. This is the second book in the Cotswold Antique Mysteries, which is a spinoff to the A Dotty Sayers Antique Mysteries. However, the author provides enough background that this mystery can be read as a stand alone. I got hooked on Dotty and her friends with the first Cotswold mystery, an “Auction of Secrets’ and I can’t wait to find the time to binge read the original “Dotty Sayers” series!
