A Field Guide to Death & Deceit by Michelle L. Cullen is a great ross between "It Takes a Thief" and Only Murders in the Building". I got to read it two months ago, now it is out and it's your chance.

This cute little ABC book is ideal for Jewish preschoolers celebrating the holiday. With items from Applesauce (for the latkes) to Zoolbia (a traditional Persian sweet), it identifies Hanukkah symbols. It is perfect for the intended young reader who is interested in the foods, family and symbols and does not attempt to explain the holiday to a wider audience. I loved the inclusion of Hebrew and Yiddish words and foods from different Jewish backgrounds. The more common Hebrew and Yiddish words are defined in small font. If I had tiny tots in my family, this one would be on my shopping list.

"Poh Poh's Sword" is a story about empowerment, immigration and intergenerational love. In Julia Hune-Brown's debut book, she relates the story of her own Poh Poh. Her grandmother didn't fight with the sword, but danced with it. As part of a Chinese Opera troupe that first toured China she left her family behind to tour North America. When the troupe returned home, she stayed in Canada to make her own home and eventually bring her family over. Bookended with scenes between young Julie and her grandmother, the story is told in flashback as Poh Poh tells her tale. Within this biographical story, the reader sees glimpses of Chinese culture and the afterward for older readers provides information about the history of Chinese immigrants in Canada. This story is brought to life by illustrator Hayley Lowe who's soft pastel paintings capture a time of long ago with amazing detail.

Nora Roberts, writing under the pen name J.D Robb, does what few other authors can manage to do.. Fury In Death is the 63rd novel of the In Death series and its still going strong. The author never fails to deliver a police thriller that is balanced with romance, humor and several characters that readers have come to love.
I usually prefer a text book over an audiobook, but this series is an exception. The narration by Susan Ericksen is exceptional. This consummate actress consistently turns in a fantastic performance, voicing dozens of characters with style. Man, woman or child, you can believe the character.
This thriller starts with a prologue that will capture the reader's heart. When Eve Dallas is called to a brutal murder years later, we suspect the murderer, long before the name is on Eve's radar. But as brutal as the murders become, the reader will feel sympathy with the murderer. The others really did have it coming. The police work is a great balance between police legwork from Eve and her partner Peabody and the technical wizardry of the electronics experts.
The best part of this book is that the author weaves the more brutal parts of the story with the cozy personal parts. Long time readers have come to know the tough Lieutenant Eve Dallas and the warm loving Detective Peabody. The banter between the partners is always fun and the chemistry between Eve and her husband Roark provide the romance. We come to care about the many characters of coworkers and friends as well. Once the case is wrapped up, there is still Mavis and Peabody's long awaited house party. And that provides surprises as well to delight the reader.
I have a lot of must-read series, but this one is a must-listen series for me, and I was thrilled to get advance copies in both formats so that I could alternate the two. I would recommend the IN DEATH series to anyone who enjoys thrillers that combine crime drama with friends and family fun.
