Woolly Dog Warms His Family
(Coast Salish Tales Book 4)
by Andrea Fritz
Orca Book Publishers
Kids love a good dog story. Woolly Dog Warms His Family, like the other books in the Coast Salish Tales series, is an original story that has the feel of a folktale. Fritz's writing is based on her natural storytelling style and her illustrations reflect the indigenous art style of her people. It teaches the reader about some of the art, culture and language of the Hul’qumi’num speaking Peoples. Kids will love the story with a woolly dog who searches for fluff that can be used to warm the family of people he lives with. The adventure takes him from a search for fireweed fluff to a conversation with a shrew and then a flight on the back of a giant eagle to the top of a mountain to gather goat wool. The afterward provides information about the wooly dog and the custom of blanket weaving.
