Fantastic You is Fantastic
There’s one special person I am always with….Can you guess who? Me!
So I’m going to give myself the same love and kindness that I give the people I love.

Fantastic You talks to kids about being kind to themselves. It explores how to deal with big emotions. It talks about giving yourself positive talk instead of negative. If you can’t do something yet, don’t tell yourself that you are bad at it and can never do it. Tell yourself that you just need to keep trying, that you can do it! If you make a mistake, admit it, apologies and ask forgiveness. But also forgive yourself. The book is never preachy, it gives lots of ideas about things that can go wrong and ways to cope. Fantastic You was beautifully illustrated by Jennifer Zivoin. The colorful pictures show a diverse group of kids, so any reader will find someone that reminds them of themselves. This book is perfect as a door for further discussion. It is not a story book, but a self-help book that is great for any age. I shared it a four year old who sat thoughtfully taking in the advise. It lead to a great discussion that I might not have thought about for such a tender age. Even though this book is aimed at kids, a parent or caregiver reading the book aloud can also take the message to heart for themselves. The book ends with another great message about how everyone is special. “There’s a wonderful, awesome, fantastic you!”

This book is published by Magination Press, Books for kids from the American Psychological Association. It would have never occurred to me an imprint like this one exists. But this surprising book is a gentle age appropriate book that is perfect for social emotional learning. I received a print copy of this book from the author for review as part of the Read Your World program. However, and I can honestly recommend this book for readers both young and old. It is perfect for any home library or classroom.
