IT'S STILL SUMMER
Summer is almost over. It may feel like autumn, but the last day of summer is September 22. If you are still in the mood for a summertime story, Murder at the Summmer Cheese Festival is a culinary cozy mystery that will keep you guessing. It will also make you hungry. Jodie Morgan's first Silver Springs Mystery teams up a cafe manager and her older landlady as an amature sleuth duo determined to solve a murder when it looks like their friend is going to take the blame. Laura and Evelyn make a great team. Laura is new to town, but she is observant and has a way with people, important qualities in the hospitality business. Evelyn is a busybody who knows everybody and has all the background needed to keep Laura on the right path. I loved the dynamic between the two ladies. The real star of a cozy mystery is usually the quaint small town where everybody knows everyone. Morgan has filled the bill with the fictional town of Silver Springs, Vermont. Her descriptions are vivid and the town comes to life in the reader's imagination. It is also full of the usual pack of quirky friends who promise to be regulars in Laura's future sleuthing. The mystery itself is well planned. It is filled with clues and red herrings, which go suprisingly well with cheese. the author has obviously done her homework and the story is full of mouthwatering descriptions of a variety of cheeses and other melt in your mouth delicacies. I know I can't wait to partake of the next Silver Spring Mystery, Murder at Goldenleaf Apple Farm, which sounds like a perfect early Autumn read.
